Apples grow on apple trees (flowering in spring) and are harvested in autumn. After harvesting the apples are gathered and transported to factories.

On arrival at the factory the apples are washed, peeled, cores are removed, sorted by size and cut. Subsequently they are steamed and the cans are filled. The product is sterilised in order to preserve it. In Italy the whole process has been mechanised, whereas in China everything is done manually (even cutting!) Traditionally the apples are canned. Nowadays they are offered more frequently in aseptic packaging, such as boxes containing vacuum bags.
